Get Your Church Involved

“Silence in the face of evil is evil.
Not to speak is to speak.
Not to act is to act…”

–Attr. to Dietrich Bonhoeffer

If you are a Christian and have taken the time to look at the information on this website, you now know what’s happening to children in our schools.  You also know that it’s wrong; very wrong.  The question is, what should be the response of the church, if any?

We believe that the church has a responsibility to stand in public opposition to the sexualization of children in our local schools.  This seems obvious, does it not? If enough church leaders had spoken up in the past, we wouldn’t be where we are.

Scripture is filled with examples of God’s people speaking out against sin in the culture. From all the prophets to Jesus Himself…They all called people to repentance for sin.  Did Jesus talk to the woman at the well about gossip or covetousness?  No. He addressed her specific area of sexual sin.  John the Baptist was beheaded because he dared to call King Herod out for taking His brother’s wife…

The gospel itself makes no sense without the proclamation of sin.

Martin Luther had this to say about church leaders pulling their punches with regard to speaking out about sin in the culture:

“If I profess with loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except that little point which the world and the Devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved, and to be steady on all the battlefield besides, is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point.”

Martin Luther

The devil is obviously is attacking God’s design for sexuality in every possible way and the primary targets are children. This is not just happening in California, New York or Washington DC.  It’s happening right here in our own community. These are the children who come to our churches on Sunday. They are our neighbor’s children. They are being destroyed by their schools; spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and even physically.  The evidence is all around us.

Where are our local church leaders?

Are they waiting for this to blow over?  We assure you, it will not.  If not stopped, this will only get worseand it can get a lot worse.

Is the plan to speak up when it gets really, really bad?  If so, the prophet Jeremiah has some words of warning:

“If you have raced with men on foot, and they have wearied you, how will you compete with horses? And if in a safe land you are so trusting, what will you do in the thicket of the Jordan?

Jeremiah 12:5

In other words, if Christian leaders don’t stand now, how on earth will they stand later–when it is even more difficult?

We exhort local churches to stand and break their silence NOW.  The destruction of children is a bright red line to God.  We dare not turn a blind eye toward it. If nothing else, church leaders should at least make sure that the parents in their own church know what is going on in the public schools. Most parents truly do not understand the depth of the problem.  They need encouragement and support in helping to protect their children. Our schools are no longer safe places for kids. Urge them to get their children out, if possible.

If we are “doing it wrong” here at New Hope, show us how to do it right.  If you have a better way, we are willing to learn…
